Regulating Scottish Water

DWQR's role is to safeguard the quality of the public supply. This is done by inspecting and monitoring Scottish Water's water treatment works, operational activities and laboratories.

When a water quality incident occurs, Scottish Water is required to report these events to DWQR as well as local authorities and NHS health boards. Then DWQR investigates and make recommendations to improve Scottish Water's performance. You can read about the latest water quality incidents here.

DWQR has the power to carry out enforcement action if it believes Scottish Water has failed to provide wholesome water. You can visit our enforcement section for further information.

Visit our About Us section to learn more about our role.
